Mac Diwali Light Festival Palette Review and Swatches

Mac Diwali Light Festival eyeshadow palette is all you need this wedding season – Review & Swatches

Hola Amigos!

How was your Diwali? Mine was just Okayyish as I have been a little under the weather. Diwali to me means lights , shopping and then some more shopping. I’m not really fond of crackers and sweets so for me Diwali is more of a laidback festival. The most exciting part of this Diwali was this amazing limited edition eyeshadow palette that I bought from MAC Cosmetics. It is a part of their Diwali Light Festival Collection which is available in the stores till November 17, 2016. It is so cool of MAC to finally acknowledge the largest Hindu Festival & launch a collection based on it. I  had been eyeing it ever since I saw it on some international blogs. One fine day, I called the MAC store in Noida and found out that they only have one last piece left (hurry up ladies, grab it before it gets sold out in other stores also). I was like Whaaaat! Immediately asked them to book it for me and left early from office to get it, CRAZY ME!

Mac Diwali Light Festival Palette

Price: INR 3100

Quantity: 0.80 Gm

Shelf Life: 3 years from Mfd.

Packaging:  I’m not really a big fan of Mac Packaging and it failed to impress me this time also. The eye shadows are housed in a black plastic case with transparent Flip cap placed inside a typical black Mac cardboard box. Its an old wine in an old bottle.  Mac should have experimented with the packaging for this diwali collection. However it was given in a colorful metallic paper bag with lighted diya wicks all over in gold & a Look Card inside. This bag is the only thing that is new about this collection’s packaging.

What Brand claims: Look radiant during Diwali with an exquisite limited-edition Eye Shadow x 9 palette. In honour of the joyful holiday, this palette features gleaming hues of gold, red and blue inspired by the flicker of flames and fireworks.

Mac Diwali Light Festival Eyeshadow Palette – My Review

So Mac Diwali Light Festival Palette is comprised of 9 of its most popular eye shadows from the permanent range. Here are the colours ( Top to Bottom, Left to Right)

  1. Ricepaper – peachy gold with shimmer (Frost)
  2. Goldmine – intense gold with shimmer (Frost)
  3. Amber Lights – peachy brown with shimmer (Frost)
  4. Coppering – orange copper (Veluxe Pearl)
  5. Cranberry – red plum with pink shimmer (Frost)
  6. Embark – intense reddish brown (Matte)
  7. Humid – intense green with shimmer (Frost)
  8. Deep Truth – true dark blue (Frost)
  9. Carbon – intense black (Matte)

Quality Wise, all the shadows are satiny and easy to apply. There are no falloffs or patchiness. Pigmentation wise I would say that these are one of the best available in the market but not on the top. I have seen & used eyeshadows from different brands with insane colour payoff. The matte shades Carbon & Embark are poorly pigmented and can’t really be used easily for creating a smokey effect. My favorites have to be Amber Lights & Cranberry. Top 2 rows can be used for creating different looks for Indian attires and I see myself heavily relying on these this wedding season.

Final Verdict: Each Mac eyeshadow retails for INR 1200. If you buy 9 of them individually, it would cost you INR 10800. The size of pans in palette is smaller than the individual pans.  Since I hardly finish an eyeshadow, I think smaller pans work for me. The palette is value for money as you get 9 eyeshadows from their permanent range for a steal away price.  If you already have some of these shades then it can be skipped.

Hey Jess, You can go for Juvia’s Place or Violet Voss Palettes if you are looking for strong pigmentation. Also, the number of shades in those palettes is more than Mac.
